Enyimba Football Club, reeling from two consecutive league losses two newly promoted sides (Khun Khalifat and Warri Wolves), is seeking redemption in their Sunday NPFL Matchday 10 clash against Plateau United in Jos.

Determined to bounce back stronger, the nine-time Nigeria Premier Football League champions are eyeing maximum points at the New Jos Stadium — a venue that has hosted several classic encounters between both sides over the years.

Speaking with Enyimba Media after the team’s walkout session on Saturday evening, Jacob Jonathan, the exciting winger and former Plateau United juniorate, exuded confidence and belief that the People’s Elephant are poised to return to winning ways.

“We are here in Jos for the maximum points,” Jonathan declared. “Although we have had some setbacks after the losses, we are determined to give all our best on Sunday.
We are not giving up and we are not relenting. Personally, it’s a mixed feeling returning to my hometown and facing a team I supported as a young player — but I will give my all for the points on Sunday.”

Enyimba’s gaffer, Coach Stanley Eguma, will be without the services of promising youngster Chidera Michael, who picked up an injury in the loss to Warri Wolves. However, new recruits Nwokeji Godswill and Samuel Agu are set to make their much-anticipated debuts, as the Aba giants look to reignite their winning rhythm.

The People’s Elephant will also be without key names such as Ekene Awazie, Ifeanyi Ihemekwele, Mujeeb Odufeso, and goalkeeper Anozie Henry, who remain sidelined through injuries. Despite these absences, the mood in camp is one of focus, unity, and defiance — typical of the Enyimba spirit.

Historically, Sunday’s encounter promises fireworks. Both teams have faced off 19 times since 2010, with Plateau United slightly ahead on the head-to-head count — eight wins to Enyimba’s seven, while four matches have ended in draws.

As the People’s Elephant charge into Jos, the mission is clear — to roar back to form and reaffirm their title credentials.
