Host Angola have emerged winners of the African Basketball title with an overwhelming 70-43 final score against Mali on Sunday night in Luanda. The victory handed them their 12th title

Angola won all the four quarters of the game taking the 1st quarter 14-10; 2nd quarter 18-10 before half time scores that stood at 32-20 in their favour.

The team again won the 3rd quarter 19-11 but there were two interruptions, some stoppages under timeouts as the 4th quarter ended 19-12.

Mali attempted an outstanding record of first win in their 20 appearances but winning Silver now was a breakthrough to their best performance of Bronze won in 1972. Mali had placed 4th five times before in 1968; 1987; 1989; 1992 and 1999.

Angola now has a record of 12 title wins; 4 Silver medals and 2 Bronze medals making them Best in Africa.

Mali and Angola had met thrice before with Angola winning all the three games with the highest scoring record of 82-36 in the match played on 26th August 2013 of which the victory of today 70-43 did not break.

Earlier today, Lions of Senegal also overwhelmingly defeated Indomitable Lions of Cameroon 98-72 to cart home the Bronze medal.
