The Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra state, Dr. Chioma Awuzie recently assured that the staff welfare, training and professional development would be top priorities.

She also promised to uphold high standards of behavior among staff and students of the institution.

Speaking on Tuesday at her inauguration as the substantive Rector, Awazie further promised to enforce strict measures against malpractice, as well ensure funds were utilized efficiently and in accordance with due process.

She outlined her 12-points agenda for transforming the Polytechnic into a hub of technological creativity, innovation, entrepreneurship and global competitiveness, stressing the need for collaboration and teamwork

She identified the key areas to include human resource development, academic reinvention, students’ and staff welfare, discipline, and infrastructural development, among others.

She further reiterated her resolve to vigorously pursue the vision of the institution’s founding fathers, noting that such step would only be possible with unity of purpose and support of stakeholders.

While frowning over public display of wealth and vehicles on campus, Awuzie warned that emerging trend of cash spraying during graduations and other ceremonies had been prohibited.

“While students are free to celebrate their successful completion of final examinations in a stylish and organized manner, public throwing of cash, display

of money bouquets, and similar displays will no longer be allowed.

“We will Establish a committee to regulate the public display of wealth and vehicles on campus. Students who own and use cars will be encouraged to park responsibly and maintain decorum,” she stressed.

Awuzie, by her appointment would be the second female to hold the position in the Polytechnic, first female rector to be appointed from within the institution.

The event attracted past and present heads of the institution, traditional and religious leaders, politicians, heads of industries, students and other dignitaries.
