Nine times league champions, Enyimba FC on Wednesday returned to winning ways after a hard fought 1- 0 victory against Akwa United in a rescheduled NPFL match day 3 encounter.

New kid in the block, Austin Onyemaechi on his debut rose from the bench to give Aba fans a sweet moment to savour.

The former Rangers Int’l of Enugu petit striker lashed on to Immo Obot’s well driven conner at the near post to break the hard fighting defence of the Promise Keepers at the 76th minutes of play sending Enyimba fans to delirium.

Reacting to sports journalist after the Cagy encounter, Onyemaechi described Enyimba as the biggest club in the country expressing his joy to get his first goal for the People’s Elephant.

“I feel very good to have my first goal on my debut.

“Before the game, I already asked God that am going to score so am glad it came.

“First I thank God for coming here, it’s been my dream to play for Enyimba.

“It’s the biggest team in Nigeria, I feel very happy and am glad I got my first goal today.

When drilled about what the fans should expect from the team especially against Katsina United on Sunday, Onyemaechi said;

“They should expect more commitment and I will do my best when ever am called upon, I will do my best to get more goals.

In his thoughts, Coach Olanrewaju Daniel Yema commended the players for staying resilient throughout the game saying they new it would be a tough one but that all that mattered was getting the job done.

He noted that the team in the past 12 days has played 5 matches and that they are also missing the services of Daniel Daga and Clinton Jephta who are currently with the National U-20 team.

On the teams next game on Sunday against Katsina United, he noted that in Enyimba what is expected is to get the job done and that on Sunday they will go out for the maximum points as he called on the fans for more support.

Enyimba FC will next take on Katsina United on Sunday October 7th 2024 at the Enyimba Int’l Stadium, Aba in one of the NPFL match day 5 encounters by 4pm.
