Delta State, host of the 8th National Youth Games (NYG) says the Main Organising Committee (MOC) and Ministry of Sports have the responsibility in providing insurance cover for the Youth Games.
To this end, The Chairman National Youth Games (NYG) Media sub-Committee Harrison Ocholor categorically stated when he was asked during a Television interview at Silverbird on whether Delta State is set to handle the medical insurance cover of AthIetes.
Ocholor responded thus, “We had a Technical Joint Meeting (JTM) with officials from the Federal Ministry of Sports towards the end of August in Asaba and all of these issues were looked at.
We are having a DRM and that DRM would be in Abuja and it would finalise the issue of Registration of AthIetes from the 36 states and FCT”.
The Ace broadcaster continued, “Now emphasis by the Main Organising Committee (MOC) and of course, the technical Committee and sub-Committee would be handling this over-age issue. That would be the purview of the Main Organising Committee. Ours on this side is to manage the Games as host”.
He emphasized that “The MOC has two structures in place, structures to determine actual age of AthIetes in the 36 events they would be competing. On medical facilities, we have top notch medical facilities on standby there in Asaba, Federal Medical Center, upgraded daily to top international standard. Asaba Specialist Hospital of course, we have retunee of Doctors that would be at various sports venues, and not forget to mention National Health insurance, all of that I believe the Main Organising Committee and Federal Ministry of Sports will ensure the Games is insured and of course, as a state, we are responsive to people’s needs, the State government has put together a top medical system in place that would cater for the needs of our young stars.
This was however a corrected version of an earlier online copy that named the NYG Media sub-Committee Chairman Harrison Ocholor as saying that Delta State will provide insurance cover for Athletes participating at the Games.
