Chairman of the Imo State Football Association, Barr Ifeanyi Dike has called on sport enthusiasts to help develop the leather game in the state.
Dike made the disclosure during the decoration of the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Imo state branch, Revd (Dr) Eches Divine Eches as an Imo FA ambassador.
He disclosed that the FA board was grappling with lack of funds despite their huge responsibility to improve football and talents in Imo state.
Accompanied by other members of the Imo Football Association, Dike praised Eches for his numerous interventions in football including provision of hall for the association’s meetings, saying he was a major support.
The FA Chairman called on Eches to help rally support for the association in their quest to restore Imo state as the highest exporter of football talents in Nigeria, noting that funding had been a challenge.
Dike stated that with Eches as a former chaplain of the Super Eagles that lifted the Nations Cup trophy in South Africa, his contributions remained indelible and called on him to support the FA to greater heights.
He said the decoration of Eches was to recognise the cleric many contributions to football in Imo and Abia states, and the Super Eagles.
Dike called on philanthropists to partner with Imo FA to aid the export of football talents in Imo state.
An elated Eches thanked the Imo Football Association for the honour and pledged to go the extra mile in the promotion of football.
Eches called on football authorities to support the Football Association and declared readiness to partner with them.
The FA board later decorated Eches with the FA insignia.
