The new Transition Committee Chairman of Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Hon. Casmir Nwafor has stated that Sports Development at the grassroots level would be a part of his administration’s goal towards engaging the youths of his LGA and showcasing them to the world.

Hon. Nwafor made the remarks in an interview session with sports writers on Sunday, July 14th 2024 during the opening ceremony of the 2024 Babatem All Stars Football Competition which kicked off at the Awka City Stadium.

The Orumba North TC Chairman stated that he will replicate what he described as ‘Iloenyosi Football Revolution’ in Anambra State, in his local government area by putting up football competitions at both primary and secondary levels aimed at raising football stars that will breed the next generation of U-13 and U-17 football stars for the state and hopefully for the country. He informed that already he has set in motion measures that will aid the promotion of football and other sports such as athletics, board games and other team sports.

He said: “I have set up a football committee in Orumba North that will work on developing football competitions as you know that football is the king of sports and the most followed game in the globe. Yesterday, I was with the State FA Chairman, Chikelue Iloenyosi to brainstorm with him on how I can make my vision achievable and laudable.

“It is my intention to replicate what he has been doing in his Football Revolution in the state at my local government level as we want to raise the next level of Under-13 and Under-17 talented footballers from the primary and secondary schools in my local government to the state and the country at large,” Hon Nwafor stated.

Hon. Nwafor also disclosed that apart from football, other sporting events just as athletics, board games and team sports will also get the needed boost as part of his vision for a total sports revolution and development in Orumba North LGA.

He called for advise and support from all sports stakeholders towards unearthing, nurturing and showcasing the youths and the LGA to the globe through the instrumentality of sports and recreational activities.
