President of the Nigeria Football Referees Association, Alhaji Sani Zuberu has appealed to the Nigeria Football Federation to increase the indemnities for referees and match officials in the domestic leagues.

According to BSNSports, Zuberu, who made the call at the 2024 Annual General Meeting of the Nigeria Football Referees Association, NRA in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State said this had become imperative given the rising cost of living in the country.

While thanking the NFF under the leadership of Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau for the support given to referees and ensuring the payment of match indemnities for referees in the just concluded 2023/2024 season, he said there was need to clear all outstanding entitlements to match officials.

Zuberu also urged all football stakeholders to work towards providing adequate security for all match officials across the country to discharge their duties professionally.

He said the NRA would not tolerate clubs and host football Associations for instigating their supporters to resort to violence against referees.
