Enyimba Sporting Director, Ifeanyi Ekwueme has revealed that the team’s junior team ‘Enyimba U17’ are Champions despite their abysmal performance at the just concluded NPFL Youth League.

Mr Ekwueme who spoke to VARSportsNow  said the team did well in the tournament

Enyimba U17 team was nothing to write home about in the NPFL Youth Championship as they failed to record a win in all their three games. They lost two and drew one

While talking about the performance of the Youth team, the Sporting Director,  said the boys are still Champions despite their awful performance.

“I think people failed to realize that we paraded the youngest team in the NPFL U17 League compared to our counterparts. Our struggle in this competition is the symbol of great things that await the team in the nearest future. So, I can conclude that we are Champions even in defeat”,

“The project is for future not present. We are focused and determined to ensure bunch of these boys represent Enyimba Senior team and Nigeria National team in the nearest future”,

“Majority think that our failure in the Youth Championship today is a bad omen not knowing that it’s a blessing in disguised. The oldest among the boys we paraded is 16 years. So don’t be surprised when you see them in the subsequent edition of NPFL U17 Youth Championship”,

“This team is a work in progress and we are determined to make the boys world class in the nearest future. Like I have said, the project is not for the present, it is for future that’s why we are not disturbed with the results”,

The former Nigeria International showered encomiums on the State Government on behalf of the Chairman, Nwankwo Kanu for their support to ensure that the welfare of the players and officials are taken care of.

“I must on behalf my President Nwankwo Kanu commend the Governor of Abia State for their moral and financial support in order to ensure that the welfare of the players and officials are properly taken care of. We are blessed to have such a sport loving Governor”, he concluded
