Still Basking in the euphoria of their away victory at Yenogoa against Bayelsa United, the league champions, Enyimba FC will be hoping to also start off the new year with a victory this Sunday against NPFL debutants, Sporting Lagos FC.
With both teams meeting each other for the first time in a league contest, the fans will be in for a thrilling encounter as the ‘People’s Elephant’ would be without their Gaffer, Finidi George who is away on a national duty with the Super Eagles with Goalkeeper, Olorunleke Ojo currently in closed camp ahead of the AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire later this month.
But Finidi’s assistant, Coach Yemi Olarewaju is confident that his boys already knows what’s at stake and would go all out for the maximum points in other to close the gap between them and Remo Stars on top of the log as well as Lobi Stars who are second.
The team ended 2023 on a winning note with a 1-2 victory against Bayelsa United and would be all out to start off 2024 with also on a winning note when they square up against the noisy Lagosians, Sporting Lagos FC at the Enyimba Int’l Stadium, Aba on Sunday.
Coach Yemi who said his side is battling to get some of his key players back from injuries was however optimistic that the young lads are very ready to step up as usual with the likes of Daniel Daga, Chidiebere Nnachi, Happy Ekwutoziam, Daniel Ekpo and Izuogu Chibueze among others all rearing to continue from where they stopped last year.
“I want to talk on the pitch, we are ready to go we know what’s at stake, I don’t think we can compromise on getting the maximum points.
We are going to close the gap up they against Remo and Lobi Stars.
“Although we are depleted in some departments with injuries but we have to call on the young boys to step up and do the job and am sure they are capable, we are good to go”, Coach Yemi stated.
“It’s a very important game for us, this is our first match of the year, we are ready and we have worked hard in the training ground.
“We are welcoming the Tech Boys to Aba and we are craving for victory, we are ready”, Attacking midfielder, Happy Ekwutoziam added.
