Warri Wolves held Enyimba to a goalless draw in a keenly contested Nigeria Premier Football League encounter at the Enyimba Stadium, Aba on Sunday.
The People’s Elephant, seeking to bounce back from last weekend’s defeat to Katsina United, started brightly but suffered an early setback when goalkeeper Dede Dare was forced off in the 10th minute after a collision with Ejike Uchegbu. He was replaced by Utum Godswill.
Enyimba pressed for an opener, with Wonah Williams causing problems on the right flank. Chijioke Ihemekwele twice went close, while Odinaka Obichere’s 25th-minute free-kick rattled the crossbar.
The hosts continued to dominate, but missed several chances before the break. Stanley Dimgba saw his effort blocked after being set up by Ihemekwele, while Iyanda Tobi blasted wide following a fine pass from Dimgba.
Enyimba piled on the pressure in the second half, but the Seasiders stood firm. Warri Wolves made a crucial goal-line clearance in the 60th minute and nearly snatched a late winner, only for Obichere to intervene in time.
The result leaves Enyimba with 8 points. They will travel to face Nasarawa United in Lafia on Sunday.
