Joint top scorer in the ongoing Governor Douye Diri Women’s Preseason Football Tournament in Yenegoa, Bayelsa State, Temitope Owoeye says she is focused on helping Ahudiyannem Queens secure victory against her former club, Delta Queens, in the semi-final clash.
Owoeye, who previously played for Delta Queens, said facing her former team will not affect her commitment, as her loyalty now lies with Ahudiyannem Queens.
“Playing against Delta Queens will not affect me in any way. My focus is victory for my current team, Ahudiyannem Queens,” she said.
The striker, who is joint highest goal scorer of the tournament with three goals, said the team has put behind them the 2-0 loss to Rivers Angels and is fully focused on the semi-final.
According to her, the Queens are optimistic and determined to rise again against one of the tournament favourites.
Owoeye stressed that she is not distracted by the top scorer award, noting that team success comes first.
“I am not particular about who becomes the highest goal scorer. That will be a distraction. I want us to play as a team and secure victory,” she said.
“We want to make our chairman, coaches and numerous fans proud. Our target is victory and that we will work for. Let Ahudiyannem Queens win. If the award of the highest goal scorer comes, it will be icing on the cake.”
