MFM Ends Aso Sky Queens’ Unbeaten Run, Qualifies For Semifinal

MFM Basketball Club has reaffirmed its dominance in Nigerian women’s basketball after ending Aso Sky Queens’ unbeaten run on Match Day 3 of the Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball League Final 8 Playoffs at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

The victory extends MFM’s unbeaten streak to 17 games and books a semifinal clash against Nigeria Customs.

MFM starts strong, taking the first quarter 16-13 and stretching the lead to 32-27 at halftime. Aso Sky Queens mounts a spirited comeback in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to three points, but MFM shows superior composure in the final quarter to seal a 60-48 win.

Speaking after the game, Captain Okoh Ukamaka attributes the team’s consistency to unity, bond and hard work, rather than just tactics and individual talent.

The PhD holder in Strategy and Leadership says her leadership focuses on ensuring mutual respect and unity, noting that there is no discrimination in the squad as every player understands her role and respects seniority.

She also commends the club’s management for maintaining a stable salary structure which helps players stay focused.

She assures that the team will raise its intensity in the semifinal as it chases another league title.

MFM’s youngest player, Hembam Vera Sewuese, also credits teammates and seniors for her motivation. The 2025 Most Valuable Player at the Zone 3 FIBA Academies Tournament describes the team as a family that shapes her development beyond basketball, with an impeccable bond and love.

In other results, First Bank Basketball Club defeats Nigeria Customs 69-47, Air Warriors end their Final 8 campaign with a 60-47 win over Victoria Queens, while Bayelsa Blue Whales edges Titans 43-39.

The semifinal line-up will see MFM face Nigeria Customs, while First Bank takes on Aso Sky Queens for a place in the final.
