Chairman of Enyimba FC, Ambassador Kanu Nwankwo, has appealed to supporters to stay behind the team following a poor run of results to start the new Nigeria Premier Football League season.
In a message titled “A Message To Our Fans” released on Monday, Kanu said the club understands the pain of the fans after three consecutive defeats, including Sunday’s 1-0 home loss to Inter Lagos FC at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba.
He thanked fans who braved the rain to support the team against Inter Lagos till the final minute, stressing that such loyalty is not taken for granted.
Quoting a popular jingle from the Broadcasting Corporation of Abia State (BCA), Kanu said: “Hard times are not forever, they come and go.”
“The times have not been most favourable. We understand the weight of the disappointing losses and we are determined to make things right,” the statement read.
“We implore you to stand with us as we wriggle our way out of this labyrinth.”
Kanu expressed optimism that the team’s fortunes will turn around quickly, with a home game against Sporting Lagos scheduled for Wednesday in Aba as the People’s Elephant search for their first win of the season.
“A win can be a propeller. We are used to victories and we are proud of that culture. Come, cheer us to victory as we kick off a resurgence. We will get it right,” he added.
