Nigeria’s senior men’s tennis team left for Morocco early Monday to prosecute their Davis Cup World Group II encounter against the host nation.
The tie, scheduled for September 19-20 at the Union Sportive des Cheminots du Maroc in Rabat, will see Nigeria battle to end a winless run of four defeats against Morocco and secure promotion to World Group I.
Team Nigeria, which boarded a Royal Air Maroc flight, has been in camp for three weeks fine-tuning preparations for the crunch tie.
Head Coach Benson Ishicheli is leading a four-man contingent of Daniel Adeleye, Canice Abua, Michael Emmanuel and Yusuf Abubakar, with US Open and Roland Garros junior star Oluwaseun Ogunsakin expected to join the team in Rabat to complete the squad.
Nigeria qualified for this stage for the first time in 30 years after edging Uzbekistan in February.
A win over Morocco will guarantee Nigeria a place in the World Group I.
