President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has set a new gold standard for rewarding sporting excellence in Nigeria by fulfilling his massive pledges to the national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress. Following their historic AfroBasket success, the President ticked every single box of his promise, delivering substantial financial rewards, allocating a three-bedroom flat to each player, and conferring them with the prestigious Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) national honour.

Reacting to this monumental and complete fulfillment of promises, the Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, praised the President’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of Nigerian athletes. He noted that this holistic reward system—combining financial empowerment, housing security, and the highest level of national recognition is a clear statement of intent and a historic milestone for the country.

> “This is the first time in Nigeria’s sporting history that athletes who win medals for the country are being so handsomely and promptly rewarded by Mr. President. We are truly seeing the dividends of the Renewed Hope Initiative in Nigerian sports,” Olopade stated.

This unprecedented gesture from the President goes beyond mere appreciation; it cements D’Tigress’ legacy as undisputed African champions and serves as a massive motivation for all Nigerian athletes currently representing the nation on the global stage. It proves that the government is fully committed to celebrating those who bring glory to the green and white flag, ensuring that their hard work and dedication to the nation are matched with life-changing rewards.
