With just seven days left until the curtain rises on the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, the atmosphere in Team Nigeria’s camp has reached a fever pitch.

On Thursday, the Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Honourable Bukola Olopade, paid a highly motivational visit to the athletes at their world-class training base in Aberdeen, delivering a final, powerful charge as they conclude the last phase of their preparatory tour.

Addressing the energetic contingent of athletes and coaches, the NSC boss reaffirmed the Federal Government’s unshakeable commitment to sports development and athlete welfare. He noted that the provision of the unprecedented, top-tier training camp in Aberdeen was a deliberate and strategic move by the Commission to ensure that Team Nigeria competes and dominates on a level playing field with the rest of the world. By removing the traditional logistical hurdles of the past, the NSC has given the athletes the perfect environment to fine-tune their craft.

Olopade did not mince words as he outlined the expectations placed upon the team. He passionately encouraged the athletes to remain laser-focused, fiercely patriotic, and entirely scandal-free throughout the duration of the Games. Reminding them that they are ambassadors of over 200 million Nigerians, the DG stressed that personal discipline and exemplary conduct are just as crucial as athletic prowess when wearing the national colors on the global stage.

Saving his most potent motivation for last, Olopade electrified the camp by assuring the athletes that their sweat and sacrifices would not go unrewarded. He confidently declared that His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is keenly following their progress and is eagerly waiting to warmly receive and celebrate them upon their triumphant return to Abuja.

As the squad prepares to pack their bags this weekend and make the short trip down from Aberdeen to the Games Village in Glasgow, the psychological boost provided by the DG has set a roaring tone. The mandate is unmistakably clear: Team Nigeria is fully equipped, deeply motivated, and officially ready to conquer the Commonwealth.
