The Anambra state Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Patrick Agha Mba, has assured that the state is in for better days as the state government ramps up investment in sports and youth development.

He stated this on Saturday, July 11, 2026, during the Anambra edition of the Olympic Day Walk which saw hundreds of residents in participation
The event, organized by the State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, started at 7:00 am from the ABS gate and ended at the Awka City Stadium with an aerobics session.
Mr. Agha Mba explained that Olympic Day marks the founding of the International Olympic Committee, IOC, on June 23, 1894, and is celebrated worldwide to promote the Olympic values of Move, Learn and Discover.
Addressing participants at the stadium, he described the day as special for promoting unity, physical fitness and sporting excellence.
The commissioner commended Ndi Anambra for the turnout and conveyed Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s, commitment to improving the state thanking the Governor for completing the Ekwulobia Township Stadium and the Country Club as the facilities will boost sports participation and engage the youth.
The Commissioner pledged that the Olympic Day Walk would be held regularly to promote grassroots sports, healthy living, respect and strong values.
Also speaking, a representative of the Nigerian Olympic Committee, and sports journalist, Jennifer Okoye, commended participants and said the event was aimed at promoting the Olympic spirit and healthy living.
The high point was the presentation of Certificates of Participation from the International Olympic Committee, IOC, to participants.
