UNIZIK Digitizes General Studies, Trains Lecturers On LMS

The School of General Studies, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, began training its lecturers on online delivery of GST courses on Monday, April 20, 2026.

The exercise marks the pilot phase of a Learning Management System (LMS) initiative in partnership with Qverse Learning Ltd.

The programme signals a shift toward digital teaching in the university and will test the feasibility of full LMS rollout across faculties, with the long-term aim of institution-wide adoption.

Speaking at the opening, the Director of the School of General Studies, Prof. Philomena Igbokwe, said the training is a critical pilot that will shape instructional delivery at UNIZIK. She urged participating lecturers to be committed and professional, stressing that complacency would not be tolerated.

Prof. Igbokwe added that the success of the pilot will determine its expansion to other faculties. To ensure accountability, participants will sign an undertaking of commitment with the School. She expressed confidence in the programme, noting it aligns with the university’s goal of digitizing teaching and learning.

She also commended Vice-Chancellor Prof. Bond Ugochukwu Anyaehie for creating an enabling environment for the initiative, calling it timely and transformative.

Mr. Arinze Ani of Qverse Learning Ltd, representing CEO Agu Onwuamaze, took participants through the platform’s technical components. He said the pilot will deploy full-text materials, PowerPoint presentations, recorded videos, and video conferencing tools.

While the training adopts a hybrid model, Ani explained that over 90% of instruction will be online, making active lecturer engagement key to effective delivery. He assured facilitators of continuous technical support from Qverse for a seamless experience.
