In a bid to further develop football in Anambra State, the Chairman of the Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA), Chief Chikelue Iloenyosi, held a strategic meeting with the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency, Dr. Onyekachi Ibezim, at the Light House Awka on Monday, April 13, 2026.
The meeting focused on the progress of football in the state and sports in its entirety, with Iloenyosi highlighting his key programs for the year, which includes the Chairman’s Cup, the Anambra State Football League – which was restarted after a 30-year hiatus, and the All Stars Football competition.
The former Super Eagles, Under-23, Under-20 and Under-17 international assured the Deputy Governor of his commitment to taking Anambra football to the next level through effervescent programmes and activities of the Anambra FA
Responding, Dr. Ibezim commended Iloenyosi’s blueprint geared towards revitalizing sports in the state through football and assured him of H.E Prof. Chukwuma Soludo administration’s support for football growth and sports excellence. The number two citizen of the state called on Ndi Anambra to support Iloenyosi’s novel idea and blueprint.
This meeting underscores the ANSFA’s efforts to drive football growth in Anambra State, building on Iloenyosi’s previous initiatives, such as the successful Anambra State Football League and grassroots development programs.
Chief Iloenyosi, a former Nigerian international footballer, has been credited with revitalizing football in Anambra State through aggressive grassroots development and talent hunt initiatives. The ANSFA has also conducted elections into its Local Football Councils (LFC) and appointed new board members, demonstrating its commitment to democratic processes and football development.
