The Chairman of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Engr. Ahmadu Musa Kida has congratulated the Super Eagles on their outstanding performance at AFCON 2025 in Morocco.
In a statement released following Nigeria’s memorable campaign, Engr. Kida praised the team’s commitment, tenacity, and unity throughout the tournament, which culminated in the Super Eagles securing the bronze medal.
He described it as a moment of pride for every Nigerian at home and in the diaspora pointing out that despite the heartbreak of the semi-final defeat, the squad demonstrated exceptional character in rallying to defeat Egypt in the third-place match.
Engr. Kida highlighted the team’s remarkable run, noting that the Super Eagles entered AFCON under significant pressure following Nigeria’s absence from the FIFA World Cup and responded with great spirit and determination. Nigeria emerged as the only team to win all three of its group-stage matches in regulation time, scoring 8 goals, the highest total by any team in the AFCON 2025 group stage.
He commended key performers including Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Akor Adams and Alex Iwobi, and applauded Stanley Nwabali, Calvin Bassey and Semi Ajayi for their defensive leadership.
“Although the ultimate prize eluded us, the brilliance, discipline, and collective strength you displayed captured the heart of the nation,” Engr. Kida said. “This bronze medal is the result of your hard work and display of your unwavering pride in the green-white-green.”
He called on all Nigerians from every part of the country and around the world to continue to rally behind the Super Eagles as symbols of national unity and aspiration, reaffirming that the collective support of the nation will propel the team to even greater achievements in future competitions.
Engr. Ahmadu Musa Kida, the President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation himself is a seasoned engineer and distinguished sports administrator. Under his leadership, Nigerian basketball has recorded historic milestones, including D’Tigress’ dominance at the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket, where they secured their fifth consecutive continental title and became the first African team to reach the women’s basketball quarterfinals at the Olympic Games in Paris 2024.
In addition to his contributions to sports, Engr. Kida’s professional career spans over three decades in the oil and gas sector, having held senior roles including Deputy Managing Director at Total Exploration & Production Nigeria. His extensive experience in engineering and corporate leadership led to his recent appointment as Chairman of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), reflecting his commitment to driving excellence both on and off the field.
Engr. Kida’s administration has also championed youth development through grassroots basketball initiatives, promoted structural governance reforms within the NBBF, and fostered partnerships to enhance sports infrastructure across Nigeria.
