NPFL MatchDay17: Chidera Shines With Brace As Enyimba Triumphs Against Kwara United

At the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba, Enyimba secured a victory over the Harmony Boys during the NPFL matchday 17 encounter on Sunday. The match marked a return to winning form for the team.

Young striker Chidera Michael scored twice in the second half, bringing his season tally to five goals and ensuring the nine-time league champions claimed all three points.

Agu Samuel had in the 23rd minute given Enyimba the lead but Kwara United petit winger, Gidado Toheeb with his mesmerizing run sneaked into the box to grab an equalizer in the 31st minute pausing the jubilant Aba fans.

But the Coach Lawrence Ukaegbu boys were geared up by the team Skipper, Paschal Eze in the second stanza with a beautiful display of football skills, passes and intense pressing that eventually resulted into the second goal after Paschal returned a well floated Conner into the box for Chidera to cooly slot home restoring their lead at the 59th minute of play

Chidera’s physical and high ball pressing also paid off when he pounced on a loose pass from Kwara Keeper to score his second of the game and his fifth goal of the season to the delight of the Aba fans

Reacting after the encounter, Coach Lawrence Ukaegbu and his captain expressed their delight with the win attributing it to hard work in training and the formation adopted.

“It was a good game and that’s what we had expected because we prepared well for the encounter, it wasn’t a surprise because it was a good one from us and am happy”,

“We were successful today because of the formation while attacking and defending, although we missed lots of chances.

“Now we will be heading to Maidugiri, we already know how they play and we will try to deploy a formation which I won’t reveal here but we will be aiming for a positive result”, Coach Ukegbu said

Meanwhile, the team Captain, Paschal Eze reiterated the teams promise of aiming to finish the first stanza on a high;

“Am happy we got the victory as we promised, this is like a home for me now I am in my fifth season with Enyimba so am happy.

“Like I promised before the Kwara United game, we are on a mission and we want to finish this first stanza on a good note and the boys understand what is at stake.

“In Maidugiri we will also fight for the maximum points to put a smile on the face of our darling fans.

With the victory Enyimba moved up on the log with 23 points and will next travel to Maidugiri for a date with the Desert Warriors on Sunday for matchday 18 encounter.
