Nnamdi Azikiwe University’s Research Production Cluster is pioneering the local production of electrical components in Nigeria.

This was disclosed by the Director, Prof. Christopher Ihueze who informed that the center was established in 2018 with a research grant and has expanded to include various machinery and a recycling plant.

According to him, the center has been producing plastic products and has dominated the market, attracting another research grant from the NASENI/ Czech Republic to produce plastic accessories for plumbing and electrical insulation.

Prof. Ihueze revealed that the university is set to start producing electrical parts and junction boxes, which are currently imported into the country.

However, Prof. Ihueze lamented that the center faces challenges, including inadequate accommodation for production and unsteady power supply.

He said that despite these challenges, the center has served as a training ground for university students, who are employed as work-study students.

Prof. Ihueze commended the university management for its support and called for more funding to boost productivity and meet market demands. He also emphasized the need for synergy among industrialists to promote industrial growth in Nigeria.

As the Director of University Production Process and University Production Cluster, Prof. Ihueze highlighted the center’s objectives, including providing infrastructure for practical teaching and research to produce competent Industrial Engineers.
