The Local Organising Committee of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria’s (SWAN) Diamond Jubilee has paid a courtesy visit to the management of Wells Carlton Hotel and Apartments in Abuja.

This meeting comes ahead of the anniversary celebration, scheduled to take place from October 29 to October 31. Wells Carlton Hotel, located in the upscale Asokoro district, is known for its luxurious rooms, avant-garde bars, and four world-class restaurants serving a blend of continental and local cuisines.

The visit was to explore areas of mutual collaboration towards the celebration tagged SWAN@60 anniversary.

A Statement from the Media and Publicity Committee of the SWAN@60 anniversary on Tuesday said the meeting which was held at the hotel’s headquarters, was part of SWAN’s efforts to partner with reputable corporate organisations for a successful event.

The Statement was signed by Chimezie Anaso and Hembadoon Rosario, Chairman and Secretary respectively of the Committee.

According to the statement, Ambassador Ikenna Okonkwo, the Secretary General of SWAN said that the association was seeking a mutually beneficial partnership that would elevate the quality of the SWAN@60 celebration

Ambassador Okonkwo also said the collaboration would project the image of the organisation as a key supporter of sports and the media industry in Nigeria.

“SWAN is here to build a relationship that will go beyond the anniversary, we have been a critical stakeholder in Nigeria’s sports ecosystem for 60 years.

“We believe that collaborating with a premium brand like Wells Carlton will strengthen our shared commitment to promoting excellence,” he said.

Also speaking, Ben Ogbemudia, the Chairman of SWAN@60 LOC highlighted the historical connection between sports and hospitality.

Ogbemudia said the two fields have contributed immensely to Nigeria’s image and identity.

“Hospitality and sports have always complemented each other in shaping our national narrative.

“This partnership is an opportunity to celebrate that bond as we showcase the role of the media in sports development over the last six decades,” he said.

Responding, Oluwatosin Malomo, the Managing Director of Wells Carlton Hotel commended SWAN for its consistent contribution to sports growth in Nigeria.

Malomo expressed the hotel’s willingness to partner with the association provided it aligned with their vision of supporting national initiatives and fostering positive impact.

“Let SWAN formally communicate its partnership proposal, and we will be glad to review and respond appropriately,” Malomo said..

Other members of the SWAN@60 LOC in the entourage were Anietie Patrick, Sylvanus Ofekun, Ndubueze Chidoka and Arinzechi Chukwunonso.
