Aloysius Attah, Correspondent of The Sun Newspaper in Anambra State, has won the 2025 Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna Ethical Journalism Prize, instituted by the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council.

Ukpa Ewa of the Core Truth online came second with the report “Why Anambra May Not Produce A Female Governor Soon”.

The prize money, plaque and certificates were presented them at the Anambra International Convention Centre, Awka on Thursday 28 August during the NUJ Anambra Council Man Of The Year Award ceremony

Attah’s winning report, “Inside Anambra’s trouble communities,” was adjudged the best among entries from various media categories due to its originality, balanced sources, and adherence to investigative journalism standards.

The report detailed Attah’s daring undercover investigation in Lilu community, Ihiala, where he was held hostage by unknown gunmen. The award was presented by Igwe Chidubem Iweka, Chairman of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, who praised Attah for practicing exemplary journalism.

According to the chairman of the Jury Panel, Sir Chuka Nnabuife, “Attah’s report was outstanding among all the entries received from both broadcasting, print journalism and online publication categories followed by that of Ukpa Ewa of the Core Truth online with the report “Why Anambra may not produce a female governor soon”.

Prof. Okunna, the Prize’s founder, congratulated Attah and the jury panel, reaffirming her commitment to promoting ethical journalism in Anambra State and Nigeria.

In a remark, the winner, Aloysius Attah commended Prof. Okunna for providing such platform to encourage journalists in Anambra to do more.

He also thanked the jury panel for their sense of judgement and professionalism and the Odogwu Emeka Odogwu led NUJ Anambra State Council for taking the council to the next level.

Attah, Chairman of the Catholic Media Practitioners of Nigeria (CAMPAN) Onitsha Archdiocese, also appreciated the Managing Director of The Sun Publishing Ltd, Onuoha Ukeh, Daily Editor Iheanacho Nwosu, and Weekend Editor Tope Adeboboye for their support and motivation. He credited their encouragement for inspiring him to produce human interest stories that have positively impacted society.

He has previously won notable awards, including Best Investigative Reporter of the Year (2011) and Co-Culture Reporter of the Year (2012) at The NATION-Coca-Cola Students Reporters Awards. He was also a 1st runner-up in the Promasidor Quill Awards Education Category in 2015 and 2016, showcasing his consistent excellence in journalism.
