The Labour Party (LP) candidate in the November 8, governorship election in Anambra State, Chief George Moghalu has called for disbandment of the state- established security outfit called Agunechemba for their unprofessional approach and serving as a political tool by the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Moghalu who addressed a Press Conference at the LP office in Awka, the state capital, yesterday condemned the beating and stripping of a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) by 8 members of Udogachi.
There was public outcry against the attack on the corps member identified as Jennifer Elohor at a hostel being occupied by the corps members at Obosi in Idemili South Local Government Area of the State.
The viral video showed the eight security operatives attacking and stripping the corps member naked. Muoghalu who described the act as irresponsible and embarrassing called on the Federal government to disband the outfit for allegedly serving as a working political tool in the August 16, 2025 Bye-elections into Anambra South Sensational District and Onitsha North 1 State Constituency to replace the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah and Hon. Justice Azuka.
He emphasized that the Udogachi security outfit should be disbanded for its uncivilized excesses, while its operatives should be trained and properly prepared to be a security outfit indoctrinated into how to relate with the civil society before being reconstituted.
“This is not the first time this kind of thing is happening. They have killed several people before for no tangible reasons. This should stop. To me, it is unacceptable. Every person of good conscience should condemn it. This not about politics but decency”,
“No matter the offence that corps member may have committed, what they should have done was to hand her over to the police for proper investigation. The Udo Gachi has no powers to put somebody in the dungeon or prosecute anybody”,
“To worsen matters, the girl is a National officer serving her father land.
The actions of these Udo Gachi people are irresponsible and have caused the citizens of the state a monumental embarrassment”,
“The people that set them up should disband and train them. They don’t have prosecutorial power. Their action is a total embarrassment to everybody”,
“Their activities during the August 16, Senatorial by-election exposed the fact that they were set up to do the dirty political work of their master.
“They were all over the place, cocking guns, beating voters and snatching boxes already stuffed with votes, tearing and scattering ballot papers on the road. And if I may ask,vis one confident that he won an election be doing all this?
“My party didn’t participate in the election because our candidate’s name was not downloaded by the Independent National Electoral Commission. That was why I was amused when Governor Soludo said he defeated APC, LP and ADC and they were non existent in the state.
“We didn’t participate in that election and they had a field day. But let me tell you, the election on November 8, will be a different ball game altogether. Anambra will speak. It is not a rocket science. LP is on the back ground”, he said.
The state government he also said should tell the people of the state the whereabout of the brutalized Corp member and should be brought out to tell her own part of the story.
The state Police Command through its Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga,a Superintendent of police had on Tuesday condemned the assault on the female Corp member saying that the suspects had been identified.
He stressed that the alleged victim’s unavailability temporarily stalled on going investigations into the matter, nonetheless reiterated the command’s disapproval of any form of assault on anybody which he said remained a criminal offence under the Nigerian law.
The victim he said reserved the right to take necessary legal action to aid the court proceedings.
He had assured corps members serving across the state of the command’s commitment to their protection.
