The 5Stars League 2025 which is the 7th edition and themed ‘Big 7’ with a new structure where only two Cities, FCT Abuja and Commercial nerve centre Lagos are hosting games.
The new format not only heightened competitiveness but also give players from different parts of the country a chance to showcase their skills on a bigger stage.
With the Abuja centre concluded and Energy FC crowned Champions after a thrilling Penalty Shootout win against Spetsnaz FC on 9th August 2025 it was the turn of Eko for show.
The Lagos phase officially opened at Showtime Arena, Meadows Hall, Lekki with an exciting celebrity novelty match watched by a diverse audience made up of entertainers and football lovers from different parts of Lagos in the stands.
On the pitch, Musical stars such as Mayorkun, Blacbonez, DJ Neptune and Skales alongside Music presenter Dada Boy, 5PL Ambassador Ibroking and social media influencer Dami Adenuga and many others played for the love of the game.
The fun-filled kickoff set the tone for what became a hard-fought eight matches on the opening day played in the usual Lekki drizzling weather.
The players paid no attention to the weather as fans witnessed a moment of Déjà vu, 2023 Lagos Champions Sizoko FC and 2022 Champions Snow Lions FC met for the first match of the season and battled to a pulsating goalless draw.
Incidentally, both teams also opened the 2024 season.
Snow Lions’ Akinwale in jersey number 10 was voted man of the match (Motm) putting his name in history as the first Man of the Match in the Lagos edition.
An exciting opening Ceremony followed the match and proved worthy of the occasion.
Representatives of brands like MTN, Nigerian Breweries, Devon Kings, Puma, Tpumpy Real Estate and Moremonee Bank were all there weighing in on the Lagos phase as it started off on a high note, marking a significant milestone for the competition, drawing larger crowds, heightened media attention, and the involvement of notable personalities.
The partners and products added excitement and glamour as grassroots players, entertainers, and influencers, were filled with euphoric energy.
The organizers hailed the success of the opening day of the Lagos phase, reaffirming their mission to use the 5Stars Premier League as a platform for youth empowerment, grassroots football development, and talent discovery.
The Lagos phase ends on 28 August and the season will be concluded with the National Finals scheduled for October between Abuja winner, Energy FC and the Lagos winner to crown the National Champions of the ‘Big 7’ season.
