The Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) has announced the appointment of Professor Ifeoma Vivian Duru as a member of its Board of Trustees.
This invitation was extended to Professor Duru in recognition of her significant contributions to Nigeria, particularly in the fields of Electronic Communication, Broadcasting, and Media Studies.
Professor Duru is a renowned academic and expert in Electronic Communication and broadcasting. She currently serves as Director, UNIZIK FM at Nnamdi Azikiwe University.
The Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism is a non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting investigative journalism, freedom of expression, press freedom, democracy, and good governance.
Named after the Nobel laureate Professor Wole Soyinka, the centre has been committed to its vision for over 13 years, working to strengthen democracy and civic engagement in Nigeria.
According to the Executive Director/CEO of the Centre, Mr Motunrayo Akin, they are delighted to welcome Professor Ifeoma Vivian Duru to their Board of Trustees adding that her expertise and contributions will be invaluable in shaping the future of the centre and advancing the mission to promote investigative journalism and democracy in Nigeria.
As a member of the Board of Trustees, Professor Duru will play a critical role in providing strategic direction and guidance to the centre. Her involvement will help WSCIJ expand its reach and impact, particularly in the areas of electronic communication and media studies.
The appointment of Professor Duru comes at a time when Nigeria is grappling with various challenges, including corruption, insecurity, and democratic backsliding. The WSCIJ believes that investigative journalism is essential in promoting transparency and accountability in governance.
