In a groundbreaking move, Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has appointed Mr. Joachim Achor, a native of Abia State, as the state’s Accountant General.
This appointment breaks with tradition, as top government positions are often reserved for state indigenes.
Soludo’s decision reflects his administration’s commitment to meritocracy and inclusion. Since taking office in 2022, the governor has appointed non-indigenes to key roles, including Permanent Secretaries, in a bid to build a competent and diverse bureaucracy.
Mr. Achor’s appointment is a testament to his hard work and dedication. He came to Anambra as a student and distinguished himself during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme, earning the state merit award.
He was subsequently employed by the state civil service and has risen through the ranks to become Accountant General.
The appointment aligns with Soludo’s reform agenda, which emphasizes merit, diversity, and institutional excellence. The governor has also appointed Mr. Adebayo Ojeyinka, a native of Osun State, as a Permanent Secretary, further demonstrating his commitment to building a inclusive and competent bureaucracy.
This appointment marks a new chapter in Anambra State’s history, one that prioritizes talent and dedication over traditional norms. It remains to be seen how this move will impact the state’s development and governance
