The Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, received the state’s lady golfers at the Government House in Lafia, following their outstanding performance at the recently concluded Ladies Golf Association’s Northern Zone Open Ladies’ Golf Championship.
According to the media release signed by Head of Public Relations, Nasarawa State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Eche Amos, the championship, held at the Minna Cantonment Golf Course in Niger State, saw Team Nasarawa excel and bring pride to the state.
Golfers with the stellar performance include Grace Agbo, Janet Ali, Blessing Odeh, Victoria Atamaja, Jennifer Aterbwe, Dorcas Malle and Rose Emmanuel.
Presenting the team to the governor, the state Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Alhaji Kwanta Yakubu said the State’s golfers excelled at the championship, bringing pride and recognition to the State wherein they scooped first and second positions respectively in both categories A and B of the championship.
The event featured teams from across Nigeria and neighboring West African countries.
Governor Sule congratulated the golfers on their achievement, praising their dedication and success. He promised continued support for the development of golf and sports in the state, emphasizing the importance of promoting the state’s image through sports.
“Let me congratulate you for the wonderful achievement and honour you have brought to our State. Let me also thank your coach(es) for working hard to impact winning mentality in you”,
“Anytime we have athletes who go out to represent the State, they automatically become our ambassadors, especially when they win, then they become our champion ambassadors who continue to promote our image outside the State”,
“I sincerely commend and congratulate you for what you have done. I pray for more success and sustenance of what you have been able to achieve. I challenge you to work harder to maintain your champion’s attitude because those you defeated will be working harder to overtake you tomorrow”, he said
The Governor commended the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development for their efforts in developing sports and talents in the state. He pledged to work hand-in-hand with the Ministry to reward the athletes for their outstanding performance.
“I also congratulate the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and the entire staff for the wonderful job you have been doing for the development of sports and talents in the State”,
“As a State and a responsible administration that value hard work and excellence, we will work hand-in-hand with the Ministry to give you(athletes) our rewards for the wonderful job you have done to promote the image of our State”, the Governor pledged.
The reception ceremony was attended by key officials, including the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Isaac Danladi. The golfers presented the trophies they won, and photographs were taken to commemorate the occasion.
