The remains of the late Chief Hon. Sir Sylvester Anyarue Chukwuma Ezeokenwa (KSJI), popularly known as Ezeudo Umuchu, Ichie Ezenwata; father of the All Progressiveness Grand Alliance (APGA) National Chairman, Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa Jr, has been laid to rest in his home town, Umuchu, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The Pontifical Requim Mass held at Holy Name Catholic Church, Umuchu, was officiated by the Catholic Bishop of Ekwulobia Diocese, His Eminence, Peter Eberechukwu Cardinal Okpaleke, with the Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Most Rev. Jonas Benson Okoye; Bishop of Aguleri Diocese, Most Rev. Dennis Isiuzor; Ezeudo’s younger brother, Very Rev. Fr. Boniface Ezeoke (Ichie) and numerous priests.
Dignetries, members of Knight of St John International, political leaders, traditional rulers and people of God turned out en masse to bid him farewell.
The APGA National Chairman, Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa expressed gratitude to all. He testified that his father lived a life worthy of emulation as he said: “My father was a star from the diplomatic sky; one that every child would wish to call father. His service to humanity was like red paint on white canvas; bold, visible and unforgettable to everyone privileged to cross his part.”
The governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo described him as a loyal member of APGA, who dedicated a significant part of his life to the growth and sustenance of the party.
He said: “Today, we see the fruit of that dedication in the son he raised, Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa, who now leads our great party with vision, discipline and purpose. It is a powerful testimony to the values and legacy he instilled.”
On his part, His Royal Highness, Igwe G. O. Ezechukwu, OON Okwuruora Umuchu described the late Ezeudo as a man of peace, great son of Umuchu and perfect gentleman. He urged his children to emulate his footsteps, even as he prayed God to receive his soul.
Ezeudo was an icon, a hero, a knight of the church, a cabinet Chief in Umuchu. He was pioneer APGA Chairman, Onitsha South Local Government Area. He was married to Lolo Lady Emilia Ezeokenwa. The marriage was blessed with children and grandchildren. He was aged 71.
