The Nigerian film industry is mourning the loss of veteran actor Tom Njemanze, who passed away on Friday, July 18, after a long battle with prostate cancer.

The news was confirmed by movie producer Stanley Ajemba Chibueze, popularly known as Stanley Ontop.

Stanley Ontop shared a heartfelt message on social media, expressing his sadness and paying tribute to the late actor. “Good afternoon everyone, it’s another sad period as we just received news from Tom Njemanze’s family that he has succumbed to his ailment and passed on yesterday. May his soul RIP. It’s well. We tried to save him, but God knows the best. Nollywood loses another legend,” he wrote, alongside a picture of Njemanze on his sickbed.

Tom Njemanze rose to fame in the 1990s with powerful performances in Nollywood classics such as:

Tokunboh, Pounds and Dollars, Atosa Issakaba, Osuofia in London, Brain Box, Igbotic Love, etc

His expressive delivery and commanding screen presence made him a cherished figure in Nigerian cinematic history, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire.

Despite being bedridden for some time, many thought he was improving until the news of his passing broke.
