..…Praises AFN’s New Puma Kit

By Oluwatobiloba Kumoye in Abeokuta

Sprint sensation, and an influential member of Team Nigeria at the Confederation of Africa Athletics, (CAA), U-18/U-20 Championship, Success Oyibu, on Monday, said qualifying for the semifinals of the youth event is the first stage of her success plan at the championship.

She made her thoughts known in an exclusive interview, immediately after heat 1 in a time of 11.87 (-1.4) on Day 1 of the championship.

Oyibu expressed dissatisfaction about her performance in the heats, stating that although her main objective at the championship is to keep winning every race step by step, she was expecting a better time.

“It wasn’t what I was expecting but I think what I need is just to qualify for the semi-finals, and maybe in the finals do better than that,” she said.

She explained that her big goal at the championship is make her name heard across the continent and the world, emphasizing that she has been training for three years to make that happen.

“It is my first international competition representing Nigeria, so I just want to make my name heard, they should know me because I have been training so hard for the competition.I’ve been training for like 3 years. I was just like when I come here, my name must be heard not just that I come here and go,” she stressed.

Oyibu went on to explain that the final stage of her goal is to claim a gold medal at the event with a new personal best.

She showered praises on the Confederation of Africa Athletics, the Nigeria Sports Commission, (NSC), and the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, (AFN), for putting together the event, giving young athletes across the continent a reason to embrace the sport.

She went on to thank the host federation, the AFN for the new Puma kit, stating that it boosted her performance.

“I want to say thank you to the organisers, the Confederation of Africa Athletics, the Nigeria Sports Commission and the Athletics Federation of Nigeria for making putting together this competition, I also want to say thank to the AFN for the new Puma kit it’s like easy to wear and to move freely in it,” she noted.
