Wikki Tourists of Bauchi has secured their spot in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after a convincing 4-0 victory over Yobe Desert Stars in the NNL Super 8 Play-offs at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State.
The team’s emphatic win, with all four goals scored in the first half, saw them finish top of the Northern Conference group with five points, edging out Barau FC on goal difference despite both teams having the same points. Barau FC won their simultaneous match against Doma United 2-0.
Coach Abdul Maikaba expressed delight with his team’s performance, praising their mental toughness and goal-scoring ability when it mattered most.
“I’m very, very happy with the players. Scoring four goals in a single match means a lot. It’s like they saved their best for the last,” Maikaba said.
After going goal-less in their previous two games, Wikki Tourists’ four-goal haul in this crucial match sealed their promotion back to the NPFL.
Maikaba attributed the win to his team’s mental preparation, saying, “The match had psychological connotation, hence my players came to the party at the right moment and with the perfect mentality.”
