UNIZIK: Department Of Physics And Industrial Physics Holds Inaugural Lecture Series, Induction Ceremony

The Department of Physics and Industrial Physics, Nnamdi Azikiwe university recently held its inaugural lecture series and induction ceremony with the theme “The Role of Physics in the Actualization of the 4th Industrial Revolution.”

The two-day event took place at the Faculty of Physical Sciences Lecture Hall, Science Village

The ceremony was preceded by the commissioning of the state-of-the-art equipment at the Advanced Physics Laboratory by the Ag. Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Carol Arinze-Umobi.

The Acting Vice Chancellor advised students on the use of the lab expressing her delight at the department’s initiative.. “I urge the students to make good use of the science lab, which was commissioned, and to open it up to the students to be used as it was meant to be”.

The lecture series featured presentations by distinguished scholars and technocrats on various topics related to physics and its applications.

Speakers included Prof. F. I. Ezema, who discussed the role of physics in the 4th industrial revolution; Dr. Foster Ihejiofor, who explored the intersection of physics and AI in agriculture; Dr. Elvin Ugonna Eziama, who presented on medical chatbots; and Engr. Ikenna David Oke, who highlighted the importance of physics in energy research.

The Acting Vice Chancellor represented by Prof. A. O. C. Nwokoye, emphasized the importance of the topics chosen, especially in today’s world. “I urge the students to take lectures like this seriously, as they will need the knowledge for their success and growth in school and after school,” she said.

The ceremony also included an oath-taking by first-year students and the cutting of the induction cake, marking their official entry into the department. Prof. Donald N. Okolie, Head of Department, welcomed the students and expressed gratitude to God for the gathering. “We’ve built a foundation that will enable our students to succeed in various fields, and we’re excited to see the impact of our programs,” he said.

The Commissioner of Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, represented by Mr. Chiekwe Chike, thanked the organizers of the event, noting that it was a welcome development that would pave the way for hard work in the faculty and the university at large.

The inaugural lecture series and induction ceremony marked a significant milestone in the department’s academic calendar, highlighting the importance of physics in various fields and demonstrating the department’s commitment to providing students with a comprehensive education.
