Rivers Angels has retained the President Federation Cup title, overcoming a two-goal deficit to defeat Nasarawa Amazons 4-2 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in regulation time.
The match, played at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, saw Rivers Angels cement their status as Nigeria’s most successful women’s football club with a record-extending 10th championship.
Nasarawa Amazons dominated the early stages, with Olushola Shobowale scoring twice to put them 2-0 ahead at halftime. However, Rivers Angels staged a remarkable comeback, with Taiwo Ajibade and Taiwo Afolabi scoring in the 57th and 62nd minutes, respectively, to level the score.
The match went to penalties, where Rivers Angels goalkeeper Anderline Mgbechi made a crucial save and also scored the decisive penalty, securing a 4-2 win for the defending champions.
This victory marks a historic moment for Rivers Angels, solidifying their position as one of the top teams in Nigerian women’s football.
