FESTDRINE All Stars Opener: Evergreen Upset Defending Champions, Metu FC

In a thrilling opening fixture of the 2025 Festdrine/ANSFA Anambra All Stars Football Competition, Evergreen All Stars FC of Awka stunned defending champions Metu Memorial Old Boys All Stars FC with a 1-0 win at the Awka City Stadium.

The lone goal came in the 30th minute courtesy of Obinna Okeredo’s clinical finish.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chief Festus Udungwu, MD/CEO of MANFES Pharmaceuticals Nigeria Ltd, the competition’s sponsor, emphasized the event’s purpose.

According to him, it is to unite Ndi Anambra through football. He assured that the competition would become an annual fixture, growing bigger and better each year, and thanked the Anambra State Government for providing a conducive environment for sports to thrive.

Other dignitaries in attendance included Hon. Emeka Orji, Chairman of Onitsha South Local Government Area, who praised the benefactor for promoting unity and social integration through sports.

Chief Chikelue Iloenyosi, Chairman of the Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA), guaranteed a successful competition, stating that the organizing committee would leave no stone unturned.

The opening ceremony featured a march past by the 27 participating teams, setting the stage for an exciting tournament.
