Plateau United pulled off a stunning 1-0 victory over Enyimba FC in the NPFL season finale at the Enyimba International Stadium.
Yusuf Abdullahi’s decisive first-half goal proved to be the difference-maker, as the Peace Boys secured all three points in a thrilling Match Day 38 encounter. Yusuf was practically a thorn in the flesh of Patrick Pascal led Enyimba defence
Enyimba FC had hoped to end their season on a high note, but the People’s Elephant were unable to capitalize on numerous scoring opportunities. Veteran forward Brown Ideye, in what was likely his final professional game, came close to scoring with an audacious overhead kick that whistled just wide. Despite a spirited second-half response, Enyimba couldn’t find a way back after Plateau United’s goal.
Plateau United’s head coach, Mangut Mbwas, was ecstatic about the away victory, describing it as a sweet ending to a challenging season. The win was a testament to the team’s resilience and determination to survive in the NPFL.
Enyimba’s captain, Paschal Eze, admitted that the team was disappointed with the result, acknowledging that the fans deserved a win.
“Not the result we wanted, at least if not for anything, the fans who have been behind us needed to be appreciated with a win but it wasn’t to be,” Eze said.
The team will now look inward, reflecting on missed chances and regrouping for next season.
In a heartwarming moment, Enyimba FC Supporters Club appreciated Joseph Atule’s hard work and good performance.
They presented him with a portrait in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the club. Atule finished as the club’s top scorer with a total of 9 goals (7 in the league and 2 in continental competitions).
