Nnamadi Azikwe University on Wednesday, 26th march 2025 began her 19th Convocation Ceremonies with the Lecture titled ‘National Integration for Unity and Progress’.
The Convocation lecturer, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary SGF office Dr Maurice Mbaeri stated that National Integration for Unity and Progress is timely and resonates with everyone as it speaks of collective identity, shared values and future as a nation.
He however, defined National Integration as a process which unifies social, cultural and regional groups within the country Nigeria, while acknowledging the country’s differences and celebrating what binds the citizens together.
He stated that National Integration is essential as to maintain the peace and prosperity of the nation saying that Nigeria as a country is blessed and the essence of national integration brings all the people closer despite their different backgrounds, beliefs, etc
Expressing the importance of peace, he said that unity in Nigeria is indispensable for progress and that it is through unity that Nigerians can harness their human and natural resources to create a better society for all.
The SGF stated that when Nigerians are united they strengthen their social fabric and build a society that is cohesive and resilient adding that unity fosters collaboration, reduces conflicts and encourage the pooling of ideas and resources.
In addressing the challenges to national integration he pointed out three factors that stand in the way to national integration Which are, Ethnic and religious divisions, corruption and inequality, and political instability.
All this he said is what makes the path to national integration not always smooth, encouraging all to remember these challenges are insurmountable and can be overcome with understanding, compassion and commitment to a common purpose.
Speaking on the benefits of national integration, he said it is a link between unity and Progress which is an important lesson in understanding the direct relationship between unity and Progress.
The convocation ceremony lectures witnessed special Guests Like the chancellor of the university His, Majesty Da Jacob Gyang Buba, The Ag. Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ifeangichukwu Ikechebelu, Deans of Faculties, Heads of Departments, Directors of units in the University, Staff, students and friends of the University.
Highlights of events include the award of Best Graduating Students to students in various faculties.
