.…Inspects New Judiciary Building
By Rose Oranye
Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor, has lauded Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s efforts to give sufficient attention to the state’s judiciary sector, encouraging swift justice delivery.
Speaking after his recent visit to the project site of Anambra State 6 Court Complex Hall, behind the Judiciary Complex, Awka, which has reached the roofing stage, Mefor expressed happiness over the level of work so far done, and extolled the contractor, Hemebs Construction Nigeria Ltd, for her efforts.
According to him: ” This is another evidence that the judiciary has not been left to suffer under the Soludo administration. In fact, as an arm of the Government, it has received very sufficient attention in terms of physical infrastructures, basic comfort and basic facilities for the discharge of their duties.
“In any modern society, effective security is predicated on a robust justice system. Thus, Soludo’s strides in security go hand in hand with a revolution in the justice system. Let me highlight several other things that Governor Soludo has done to ensure a very effective justice system in Anambra State.
“There is now what we call full automation in the Anambra judicial system. This involves e-filing of cases, automation of probate and automation of the Ministry of Justice itself. There are visual hearing facilities in up to 30 courts and four Correctional Centres. Then you have solar power installation across 30 courts and the Court of Appeal, ensuring uninterrupted operations; the launch of Small Clean Courts for resolving minor disputes swiftly, establishment of a Bureau of Missing Persons, spearheaded by Prof. Chidi Anselem Odinkalu to address cases of missing individuals.
“We have a total of 17 or 19 laws passed under the Soludo administration and they are all executive bills. They came from the executive arm led by Prof Soludo via the Attorney General. Among the laws are Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Anambra State (ACJL) 2022, Anambra Multi-Court House Law 2022, Revenue Administration, Consolidation, Harmonisation Law 2023, Cultism and Similar Activities Prohibition Law 2024, Anambra State Touting Prohibition Law 2024, Health Facilities Monitoring Accreditation Agency Law, Anambra State Newspapers and Printing Corporation Repeal Law 2024 and many more. I think I must mention the most recent which is the Anambra State Homeland Security Law 2025 and of course the one before it, the Local Government Administration Law 2024.
“It’s just for you to know the efforts being made in the justice sector, and I have gone around to some of these interventions in physical structures. For example, if you go to Onitsha, new quarters for judges are springing up. The last time I was there, painting and interlocking the landscape of the premises are the two things left,” he said.
Speaking to our reporter, the Chief Executive Officer, Hemebs Construction Nigeria Ltd, Mr Henry Onyeibor, assured that the Anambra State 6 Court Complex Hall, will be delivered within a short period.
