Enyimba FC head coach, Stanley Eguma, was left ruing missed chances as his side suffered a 2-1 defeat to Katsina United in their NPFL Matchday 25 encounter at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium on Thursday.
Despite dominating large spells of the game, the People’s Elephant failed to make their chances count, allowing the Chanji Boys to capitalize on their opportunities and secure all three points.
Goals from Lukeman Bello in the 40th and 49th minutes handed the hosts a crucial victory, while Enyimba’s late consolation through substitute Ekene Awazie was not enough to salvage a result.
Eguma, who was visibly disappointed after the game, insisted that his team were the better side but were undone by their own profligacy in front of goal.
“It’s unfortunate we lost this game. Actually, we prepared to get a better result or to win, but it has come and gone,” Eguma lamented. “We created some chances but we couldn’t convert them, and the opponents got their own and they converted them. That was the difference—not that they outclassed us. We lost a lot of chances”.
With the race for the NPFL title heating up, Enyimba’s failure to take their chances could prove costly in the long run. The Aba giants now find themselves needing a quick turnaround as they prepare for the State final of the President Federation Cup before shifting focus back to their league campaign.
Eguma remains hopeful that his side can bounce back, emphasizing the need to work on their lapses ahead of their next fixture.
“We will take the positives from the encounter and go back home to work on the negatives,” he said. “We need to ensure we come out stronger in the next game.”
For Katsina United, this win adds momentum to their survival push, while for Enyimba, the defeat serves as a wake-up call in their pursuit of NPFL glory. The People’s Elephant must now regroup quickly if they are to keep their title aspirations alive.
Up next for the Aba giants is the final of the Abia State President Federation Cup against Ahudiyanne FC of Abiriba.
