The State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Commandant Olatunde Maku on Wednesday, 19th February, 2025 paid a courtesy visit to UNIZIK Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu.
The visit by the State Commandant and his team was geared towards strengthening the already existing relationship between the institution and the para-military organization in the aspect of curbing security challenges and enhancing the capacity of the men of the force through the institution’s academic programme.
In his remarks, while welcoming the Anambra State Head of the NSCDC, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu eulogized Commandant Maku for taking out time to pay the courtesy visit despite his very busy schedule while also appreciating him for his innovations and creativity in enhancing security measures in the state.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor promised that his administration will support the “Safe School Initiative” of the NSCDC geared towards promoting educational values and enhancing the security architecture within academic institutions in the state.
The scholar also informed that the institution offers academic programmes that will be beneficial to the galant men of the NSCDC command.
Earlier, in his remarks, the NSCDC boss, Commandant Olatunde Maku congratulated the Acting Vice-Chancellor on his recent elevation by the Federal Government while praying that his position will be made substantive in due course. Maku informed that he came up with the concept of “Safe School Initiative” geared towards tackling the menace of cultism, insecurity and other social vices in the ivory tower to make tertiary institutions in the state conducive for teaching, research and community service.
The NSCDC boss affirmed that the partnership with the foremost institution named after the Great ZIK of Africa will go a long way in combating crime and criminality of any form in the institution in its quest to achieve a great status amongst committee of Universities in the country and beyond.
Present during the visit were members of the UNIZIK management such as the Acting Registrar of the University, Mr. Victor Modebelu; the institution’s Chief Safety Officer, Chief Ken Chukwurah; Dean, Faculty of Law, Prof. Felicia Anyogu; Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Biereenu Makodi Nnabugwu and the Director of Academic Planning, Prof. Angela Ufele-Obiesie.
