The new Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu has promised to set up a vibrant Police Post/Station along Ifite Axis of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka.

The CP made this disclosure when he paid a courtesy visit to UNIZIK Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu at his office on Wednesday, 19th February, 2025.

In his remarks, UNIZIK Ag. Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ikechebelu while welcoming the new CP congratulated him on his new appointment as the general overseer of the Police Force in the state.

the Ag. VC described his appointment considering his rich academic and combat training background as apt and a welcome development for the University Community and the state at large.

Prof. Ikechebelu while highlighting some of the challenges of insecurity within and outside the institution implores the new CP to look into the previous arrangement between the institution and the Police Force on setting up a Police Post around the Ifite axis and ensure it comes to fruition so as to enhance security watch, protection of lives and properties within the institution and beyond.

According to him, the university in the previous arrangement with former CP, made available land for the project.

On his part, CP Orutugu thanked Prof. Ikechebelu for the warm reception accorded him and his team.

The Commissioner of Police informed that the institution is pivotal to human capital development which is why he and his team deemed it necessary to pay a visit to the institution’s numero uno.

CP Orutugu promised that under his watch a functional and vibrant Police Station will be established within the Ifite axis of the institution in order to stem the tide of crime and criminality within the area.

He was happy that the university had shown commendable interest in issues of security and promised to ensure provision of the structure since Nnamdi Azikiwe University has provided the land for the project.

Highlights of the visit was exchange of souvenirs between the institution head and the Police CP as well as session of group photograph.
