UNIZIK Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu on Thursday, 6th February 2025 commissioned the newly completed Ultra-Modern Secretariat Building Complex of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) UNIZIK Chapter.
In his address, UNIZIK Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ikechebelu commended the Branch Chairman of the SSANU UNIZIK Chapter Dr Njideka Nwangwu for her doggedness and vision in ensuring that the union started and completed the massive edifice in form of an Ultra-Modern Secretariat Building which will serve not just the union but the institution in various purposes.
Prof. Ikechebelu who was represented by the erstwhile Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Collins Nwogwogwu thanked the current EXCO and the members for the support to the current union leadership in ensuring the dream was actualized.
The scholar urged under unions to emulate the noble gesture through solidarity, oneness and togetherness.
Earlier in her remarks, the Chairperson of SSANU UNIZIK Chapter, Amb. Dr. Njideka Nwangwu stated that the gigantic beautiful edifice is one of the numerous proves of her fearless and faithful representation of the union.
Comrade Nwangwu disclosed that although the project was estimated at N150 million, the union under her watch has only committed the sum of N64 million as of the present day while also describing as deceitful the unfounded published news that made the rounds that the sum of N163 million and N150 million was embezzled under her leadership.
Comrade Nwangwu further disclosed that the Secretariat will not only serve the union but also generate income geared towards boosting the bumper welfare scheme for her members.
The union leader appreciated the university management both past and current VC, her predecessor, the contractor of the building project and her EXCO for their commitments and dedication towards the success of her administration.
The occasion also featured special prayer session conducted by Very Rev. Fr. Prof. Bonachristus Umeogu.
Other highlights of the colourful occasion were the commissioning and opening of the building complex, solidarity messages from union leaders of ASUU, NASU and NAAT as well as award presentations to various recipients.
