History was made on friday at the Anambra state delegates conference of the Nigeria union of journalists ( NUJ) Anambra state council held at NUJ centre Awka,where new executives of the council were elected, it was a free and fair election .
The election, was witnessed by some important dignitaries of the state. Among them was Chief Akia Egwuonwu, the Anambra South Senatorial Zone aspirant under the platform of the All progressives Grand Alliances APGA.
Addressing the journalsts at the conference, he talked about the insecurity situation in the state saying that the fight should not be left only for the government.
He said that security is everyone’s bussiness, stressing that insecurity situation is not only in the south east but other parts of the country.
He commend the executive governor of the state prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo for his efforts to bring insecurity in the state to an end.
He also assured ndi anambra that the forth coming election will be back to back in the state.
Speaking on the issue of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu who has been detained by the DSS, he made it clear that he will stand for the release of Nnamdi kanu, and also to make sure that there will be freedom of speech of the press.
He also wished the newly elected officers of the nigeria union of journalists ( NUJ) anambra state council a successful tenure and prayed for God’s, love, understanding and cooperation among them to move the Council to a greater height.
In his own speech, the newly elected Chairman of the Council Comrade Emeka Odogwu, described the press as an indispensable pillar of the society- a beacon of truth, a voice for the marginalised, and a watch dog for justice.
He congratulated the elected officers and assure them of transparent leadership.
