Engaging in sporting activities has been described as the greatest catalyst and panacea for good health and wellbeing for an individual.

The chairman Hoba Development Association, HDA, Abuja, Barrister Prince Alheri Bulus Nyaku stated this at the 2024 Sports Day for Hoba Community, held at the package B, MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

Barrister Prince Nyaku said sports remains a vital tool to inject peace and unity in any community and Hoba community was not an exception.

“Sport is part of health requirements and we saw it reflect here and it’s very very good because most of our members are busy with business, busy with office work”,

“So it’s very good we address out health challenges by getting deeply in sports and other activities that will keep us fit. So we come together to exercise ourselves for our health benefits. This outing will further unite ourselves us for the overall development of our community back home”

According to Barrister Prince Nyaku, “today there are some people I have not seen for long and I can see them now despite the downpour they defiled it and still made it- this’s the power of sports. We did the first edition last year and we saw the impact it had on our association”

Three Sports ,Volleyball, Badminton and Aerobics featured at the event with old, young and children having a field day participating in the events.

Elder statesmen of Adamawa extraction also defiled the steady downpour to witness the sports day.

General Haladu Anthony Hananiya (rtd) is excited with the level of peaceful co-existence among his people through the power of Sports.

“All families are connected and the best way we show or commitment is to physically stay fit and physically fitness involves a lot of sports including mountain climbing and hiking because our area is completely hilly that is why we always teach our children that wellbeing is the way to go. See the children here they are learning and I believe they in future they would continue with this trend and our people would continue to live in peace”

For the Chairman Board of Trustees, Hoba Community in Abuja, Engr. Marcus Gundiri, the importance of sports cannot be over emphasized.

“This gathering potends unity, togetherness and love. You can see that so many people will not be able to see because they are busy in their offices but because of this Sports programme they are here interacting and sharing ideas.

“Through this sports meeting families are united so we thank the Organizing Committee for being proactive in this area. It’s a very unique one and it’s a yearly affair so it means that we want to unite ourselves by coming together to socialize through sports”

Other members of the community, Chairman planning committe, Isahyel Jedel, Mrs. Eunice Dominic John and Bitrus Usmani, described the event as memorable and appreciated all that graced the occasion.

Hoba Development Association, Abuja, is the umbrella Socio-Cultural Association of the Hoba peoples’ whose core objective is to promote harmonious co-existence among its people and other ethnic nationalities in Adamawa State and Nigeria in general through Sports and other means.
