Enyimba Football Club handler, Coach Yemi Olanrewaju says the team’s focus is shifted to their weekend encounter against Rivers United in Port Harcourt.
The People’s Elephant secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Lobi Stars in a rescheduled midweek game yesterday in Aba.
Coach Olarenwaju who praised his team’s resilience after the victory said they are putting the game behind them to focus on another crucial match against Rivers United.
“We’re putting this game behind us and focusing on Rivers United. The boys tried though with some lapses which will be worked on and I hope they will do better. “We started strong, dominating the first 20 minutes, but complacency crept in. We sat back, and that wasn’t good enough. We allowed Lobi Stars to gain momentum.”
“We’re happy to get the three points; that’s what matters. The league is a marathon, and every game counts. Getting maximum points at home is crucial.”
Ufere Chinedu registered his name on the scorers sheet on his first home game in the 13th minute with a beautiful homemade strike while stand in Captain Eze Ekwutoziam who was fouled in the box converted the spot kick two minutes later.
Waheed Adebayo in the 37th minutes with a volley gave the Benue Warlords oil that strengthened their wheel of resilience and effervescence though they were resisted by the Enyimba defence.
The second victory in the new season which marks a positive return takes the Aba millionaires up the league table making hope available for title ambitions.
Although the Enyimba FC coach says he is not setting any targets for now, they will look to build on this momentum as they face Rivers United in Port Harcourt at the Adokiye Amaesiemeka Stadium on Sunday 29th September by 3pm.
