NYG 2024: Anambra Increases Gold Medal Tally, Qualifies For Volleyball And Beach Volleyball Finals

Anambra State continues to shine at the ongoing 8th edition of the National Youth Games (NYG) holding in Asaba, Delta State as the team on Monday, 16th September 2024 increased her Gold medal tally to five in the games.

Chioma Edeh was the star of the day winning a Gold medal against all odds in the 800 metres event seeing off the competition from the host, Delta State for the short distant race.

Team Anambra came close to winning Gold but were usurped by Kwara State in the Team event of the Female Scrabble courtesy of the delectable trio of Onyinye Nnemkwo, Victoria Chimamanda Chukwuemeka and Catherine Ubammayie.

In Beach Volleyball, the Female duo of Gift Iwobi and Chioma Omah defeated their Bayelsa Counterparts to book a place in the Grand Finale billed for Tuesday at the Westend Secondary School BVB Court. In the same vein, the Female Volleyball side upended Oyo State 2-1 (25-15, 22-25, 25-10) to book a place in the finals.

In Track and Field, Gold medalists at the games, Chigozie Rosemary Nwankwo and Adaeze Eze secured their places in the final of the Female 200 metres race, Chigozie Nwankwo who had earlier won gold in the 100 metres Female final finished second in Heat 1 of the Semi Finals while Long Jump Junior Champions at the ongoing 8th NYG, Adaeze Eze won the Heat 2 to zoom into the Female 200 Metres Final Race billed for Wednesday, 17th September 2024 at the Main Bowl of the Stephen Keshi Stadium.
