Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has been commended for equipping the state’s Disability Rights Commission with advanced digital tools to enable adequate support for persons with disabilities.

The Chairman, Anambra State Disability Rights Commission, Barr. Chuks Ezewuzie expressed his satisfaction with the initiative, highlighting the rapid pace of technological adoption and its potential to enhance productivity.

He emphasized the importance of technology in the modern era.

According to him, anyone without technology is still living in the Stone Age and with the new digital tools, the commission has modernized its operations and improved its ability to serve individuals with disabilities.

Ezewuzie discussed the challenges faced before the digital era, especially for those with physical disabilities, recalling his experiences at a school for the blind, where manual efforts were required for various tasks.

He said that upon returning from postgraduate studies in the United States, he found a lack of resources to apply his knowledge, adding that with Governor Soludo’s support, these challenges are being addressed.

The digital tools provided to the commission have not only boosted productivity but also enabled more individuals with disabilities to receive training at the Access to Technology Training Centre within the Commission.

He said that the commission has also received amenities such as cable TV, air conditioners, water dispensers, stabilizers, refrigerators, cameras, and tripod stands in addition to the digital tools, thereby creating a more inclusive and functional work environment.

The initiative, supported by the Anambra State ICT Agency, reflects a broader vision of bridging gaps and fostering inclusivity through technology.

The collaboration between the Disability Rights Commission and the Anambra State ICT Agency has been crucial in facilitating this digital transformation. The agency, which focuses on driving e-government initiatives and supporting technology integration across state institutions, provided the technical expertise and resources necessary for the successful implementation of these digital tools.
