The Acting Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Carol Chinyelugo Arinze-Umobi, joined the congregation at St. Joseph Catholic Chaplaincy, UNIZIK permanent site, for worship, where she was warmly received by the chaplain and other leaders of the Chaplaincy.
The Chaplaincy leadership included the Chairman of the Catholic Men Organization, Prof. J.K.C. Emejulu, 2nd Vice Chairman, Prof. Brian Adimma, and Professor Gladys Ahaneku, a prominent leader among the women of the church.
The Holy Mass, presided over by His Lordship, Dr. Paulinus Chukwuemeka Ezeokafor, Bishop of the Awka Diocese, featured a powerful homily emphasizing the importance of closeness to God as a path to receiving His abundant blessings. Bishop Ezeokafor also addressed the youth, urging them to acquire practical skills and shun ungodly dress codes.
He commended the parishioners for their unwavering dedication to the Chaplaincy, despite the economic challenges, and called on the government to address the pressing issues of poverty. Additionally, he encouraged the faithful to take up farming, even on small plots of land around their homes, as a means to combat food inflation and hunger.
The service also witnessed the confirmation of 270 faithful, the commissioning of the newly completed Residence of Priests, and a reception ceremony chaired by the Secretary to the Anambra State Government, Professor Solo Chukwudebelu.
In her remarks to the congregation, Prof. Arinze-Umobi expressed her unwavering support for the Chaplaincy’s faith-based initiatives and reaffirmed her commitment to the development of the university, with a particular focus on improving student welfare.
She shared that on assumption of office as Acting Vice-Chancellor, she visited the student hostels, and has since begun rehabilitation work. She further announced plans to provide free Wi-Fi to provide free Wi-Fi to all students residing in the five university hostels upon the completion of the ongoing upgrades.
Prof. Arinze-Umobi extended her gratitude to Bishop Ezeokafor for his blessings upon the university and to the university community for their continued support in her efforts to uplift the institution.
